Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackDon’t get me wrong. I love the Earthship design. I have been an advocate of green building along with smaller simpler living since the 60’s so I truely understand the ramifications of lying and stretching the truth. I will continue my fight the battle for truefull green marketing. I have written letters to the editors of every publication in an effort to drive truthfull marketing and also expose vanity buildings (homes) as not green. Keep building your fine homes!
@rubycreek My arguement still stands. It is not cabon zero. Sure the carbon footprint is lower however but saying it is ZERO is lying and that only hurts our green movement. I used the windows and only “one” example of a cabon addition to the building which by default renders it “not” carbon zero. A teepee is an example of a truely carbon zero building and that is only if no commercial materials were used. I truely hate when marketing trumps truth. Loose the term “carbon zero”
@Engineer245 If you have no windows, you have no food. I would think the savings in transport energy for the food, both farm to store and store to home, would put this back in the negative on carbon fairly quickly.
When it cost $300k for the earthship it is not green. Because the money the labors are making goes to support a carbon excess somewhere else. Also if you have any windows it is not carbon zero!
I always have wanted to live in a home that is eco friendly but I had never heard of Earth Ships until I watched the Travel Channel, and even then I didn’t fully understand what they are.
I always like to hear Michael talk, but whoever was in charge of the sound on these webinar videos did NOT have it together. Sheesh!
very well thinking there with Haiti…
Great information but as with other ES vids I’ve watched, the audio is a major issue. I was kind of upset after I got the last seminar DVD to see the same issues. PLEASE guys, the information you have to share is valuable so lets work to make the quality better of the videos. Audio is just as important as the video quality.
I’m a big fan, I try to collect as much as information as I can about these subjects and to inform people on my profile website. Sharing knowledge makes the influence from bad politicians smaller. If the people in general have more knowledge it’s harder for politicians to fool them. Education and knowledge is the key, and we civilians have a powerful and peaceful weapon to use in order to spread and share knowledge
) I suggest we start to use those possibilities to share knowledge.
lovelovinglove is working to bring one to philly
Michael Reynolds explains how bureaucratic fears can double or even triple the cost of building an Earthship.
michael, regarding materials, bucky fuller said ‘look around; use what is plentiful (wherever you are)’ .. in different areas, this means different things, but as far as achieving a cost effective approach, right on target as part of a sustainable method
Go Michael!!!!
Make them smaller this is so cool until you say they are same price as convetional to make.
