Living off the gird can be┬áchallenging as well as rewarding. Getting Off the Grid is a dream for many people at this time. I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had over the last few years about achieving Off Grid status. What would it take to get Off the Grid.

There are many DIY projects you can start that you can take your first steps toward living Off the Grid.

Making or installing solar panels can be a good first step. Solar (PV, Photo Voltaic) panels can capture sun light and convert it to electricity. Being able to store that energy in batteries or some other form for later use is crucial.

Passive solar designs worked into you living space can have some very positive benefits. Passive solar design can augment the heating and cooling effects on your home.

Wind Generators are usually the flip side to the Off Grid coin. When the sun isn’t shining then the wind could be blowing. Wind Generators can potentially work day or night as long as there is sufficient wind.

If you are fortunate enough to live near a source of flowing water micro hydro is another potential source of energy.

Sustainable living is a concept that I believe many of us will be using more often in the future. It basically means that you live off what you produce. Growing your own vegetables can be very rewarding and provide you with the peace of mind of knowing when they came from and what went into them. No more plastic tasteless tomatoes.

Start raising chickens to provide you with fresh wholesome eggs and meat. Chickens can also provide fertilizer and bug control.

There are many ways to get Off the Grid and provide a better life style for yourself. Each one of these is a stride in the right direction and by following one of these at a time can get you to the goal of being independent and Off the Grid a step at a time.
